Industry Expert Dee Warmath Says Physical Stores Are Here to Stay

smavatar200x2003Denver, CO – World Alliance for Retail Excellence & Standards is sponsoring Dee Warmath, Senior Vice President of Global Product Development and Retail Insights for the NPD Group, Inc., at its annual Retail Merchandising and Marketing Conference to be held in Scottsdale, Arizona on April 27-30. Warmath, who is responsible for the design and delivery of innovative, solution-based applications of NPD information to address its clients’ business needs, will speak to the topic of physical retail stores, which, she says, are not only here to stay but are the most important source of, and influence on, sales. However, Warmath is quick to warn that not every physical retail space will be spared in today’s challenging and often unpredictable economic environment. Her address will provide attendees with cutting-edge insight into the survival of the physical retail presence as well as a new perspective on promising growth opportunities. With her unique ability to translate research into simple, relevant insights, Warmath will dispense with the common misconception that physical stores are moving closer to extinction every day, while also providing clear-cut action-oriented ideas for her audience.

deewarmathWarmath has 26 years of research and strategic consulting experience across a range of industries, with 20 of those years focused exclusively on the retail industry and ten in apparel retailing. A sociologist by formal training, she recently completed her Ph.D. in Consumer Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her training and experiences have produced an integrated approach to research. In addition, she has expertise in qualitative, quantitative, and database methods, as well as statistical analysis and modeling. Warmath will be addressing conference attendees during the General Session with her speech entitled “Long Live Physical Space: How to Ensure Survival of Retail Locations that Pay Your Bills Today” on Tuesday, April 30th at 8:45 a.m.

Registration is still being held for the Retail Merchandising and Marketing Conference, which features a variety of national retail industry leaders as dynamic keynote speakers, a trade show with the latest technology and services and educational breakout sessions. The program is targeted at providing attendees with the knowledge to successfully run a business, develop a top-notch staff and deal with modern technology challenges and options. The international conference will also provide networking opportunities with the non-profit organization’s members, manufacturers and retailers.

In addition, World Alliance is hosting Session Speaker Gerry O’Brion, former marketing executive for the brands of P&G, Coors Light and Quiznos, who will teach attendees how the major corporations manage their brand image to stay competitive in today’s challenging global economy and keep their customers. This upbeat, thought-provoking presentation, packed with information, strategies and case studies about companies that are doing it right, will generate real ideas that can be used immediately. O’Brion is an expert on the in-store experience, which he says is the future of a retailer’s brand. He will address how to properly utilize external service providers, while also avoiding the common pitfall of disrupting the shopping environment that the retailer has worked hard to create.

gerry-obrion-3-300x300The Educational Session featuring O’Brion will be held on Wednesday, April 17th, from 3-4 p.m. and is entitled “Protecting Your Brand: Using Qualified Third-Party Service Specialists for a Cohesive Shopper Experience.” Attendees of GlobalShop 2013 are also invited to come to booth #1652 to see World Alliance for Retail Excellence & Standards and learn more about the non-profit association and its annual Retail Merchandising and Marketing Conference to be held in Scottsdale, Arizona on April 27-30. It ranks as the only global show where retailers can find the largest, most comprehensive array of store fixture companies and in-store solutions than any live event in the nation.

Sole Retail Marketing Non-Profit Rebrands Its Image on February 1st

NARMS President Tom Caddell Calls It “An Evolution”

Denver, CO. – “This change is not just a name change. It’s truly an evolution. Our new name goes along with our new vision, mission and objectives.” With those statements, Tom Caddell, Executive Director of NARMS International (www.narms.com) announced today the February 1st launch of a rebranding of the 17-year-old non-profit organization. “In the past, NARMS did not take the steps necessary to be recognized in the industry or the media. Within our trade association, our members knew the name NARMS, certainly, but the industry as a whole didn’t know what we did, how we did it and what we stood for. We’ve spent significant time determining our current and future relevancy in a challenging and ever-changing marketplace. A rebranding initiative, based on a new name, was imperative.”

worldalliancesm4cweb1 Effective February 1st, NARMS International becomes World Alliance for Retail Excellence & Standards. The name was selected based on the organization’s vision to be the driving force behind at-retail collaboration and standards, as well as nationally and internationally recognized as a thought leader within the retail industry. “Our new mission is simply to expand collaboration across the entire retail spectrum, thereby providing a format that fosters continuous improvement in service execution, customer experience and change management for all parties. It’s time to bring more value so everyone, from the retailer to the manufacturer and, ultimately, the consumer, receives the very best in products and services.” Caddell went on to explain that the member-supported non-profit will provide the “first ever” accredited retail certification program based on a code of standards, policies and procedures. In addition, the organization will provide workforce education and training, an enhanced job board known as the TheRetailRecruiter.org, invaluable resources and a clearinghouse for research. He also emphasized an initiative to reach out to, and establish relationships, with the media, particularly the trade publications.

Caddell enthuses: “Retail is a rapidly-changing industry, subject to constantly-evolving technology, globalization and marketplace saturation with unprecedented levels of consumer influence. We must be forward thinking so our members remain relevant. And, our change is good, for the industry overall but more importantly for our members as we build a platform that supports ethical, professional company responsibility. The timing just couldn’t be better to acknowledge our legacy while also moving forward, embracing the dynamic future ahead.”

World Alliance for Retail Excellence & Standards (www.worldalliance-retail.org - currently under development), formerly NARMS International, is a non-profit organization, based in Denver, that brings together all sectors of the retail industry: retailers, manufacturers, independent food and non-food brokers, wholesalers and distributors, retail service companies and support service members. Together, they are an alliance of at-retail companies entrusted with delivering exceptional sales, marketing and service support to B2C manufacturers, retailers and their customers, across all channels.

Division Committees to Merge / Associates Change Name

October 5, 2012 by Newsfeed Editor

NARMS member companies have long been established as the foundation of our association and continue to be the driving force as we move towards growth and expansion. The divisions to which our members have been assigned were originally formed to categorize the companies according to the industry skills they represent – PIC, MSO and Event & Demo companies were distinct and defined entities. However, as the retail industry evolves, more and more companies are overlapping into other areas of expertise: multi-tasking and cross-utilizing now seem to be a common trend among retail service companies.

In light of this progression, it has been decided by the individual committees to merge into one solid, sustainable group called the Retail Service Provider committee (RSP), which will still continue to represent each division, however those committee members will now be under the umbrella of one collective committee. As with any and all changes, this does not happen overnight and therefore will be a steady transition both on our website and within the Association.

Another exciting development affects all of our Associate Members, who will from here on out be referred to as Support Service Members. It was determined by the committee that the word “Associate” did not clearly define their role in the association, and therefore, after much discussion, the term Support Service Members was created as a name that exemplifies what they represent: to provide support services to the rest of our membership.

The staff and Board of Directors for NARMS work diligently to ensure that every change and every new development within the Association will be for the betterment of our members. For any questions on the above, feel free to contact Fiona Lipscomb, Director of Member Relations at [email protected] or (720) 442-9011 ext 104.
