NARMS Establishes New Offices

recent lease space opportunity has allowed NARMS staff and executive offices to locate at the Post-Whiting Center office buildings at 2417 Post Road, Stevens Point, WI 54481. With NARMS Executive Committee approval, NARMS CEO/President Dan Borschke executed a five-year lease arrangement on approximately 3,200 square feet of office space that provides office and storage space in a five-year old office building located just east of the Plover River in the village of Whiting, WI.

Besides the obvious reasons why everyone is so joyous this time of year, I always find myself in a reflective mode in December because it means we all must look back on what we have achieved in the 365 days that have just passed and start thinking about the future and what goals and obligations we have for the new year. Was 2006 Really a “Dog”?

I am unsure of whether there’s any special significance in that the year, 2006, has been the year of the “dog” in the Chinese New Year. But as December winds down, I think I find it more appropriate to call it the “Year of the Move”.

It was a year of buying and selling houses and I am fortunate that my wife, Marla, and I accomplished both in relocating ourselves to central Wisconsin. Seeing any number of houses still on real estate market listings months later leaves us feeling lucky or at least confident that we priced right as our listing yielded several acceptable offers and closed by the end of summer.

Web-Based Reporting System for North America Announced

NARMS is pleased to announce that NARMS associate member company, Computer Resource Center, LLC (CRC) has been selected as the Preferred Provider for the NARMS Web-Based Reporting System for our North American small and mid-sized members. With electronic reporting capabilities becoming so critical in the retail services industry, NARMS has seen the need to seek a “start-up grade” reporting system for smaller member companies that are unable or unwilling to invest heavy capital amounts required to establish electronic reporting systems.

Gary and Gail Tie Knot

NARMS “founding father” Gary Ebben and Gail Omernick were united in marriage on September 9, 2006 at one of their favorite locations at the foot of the Rockies at The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, CO.

They celebrated their union with a trip to Europe in late October.

“Pick”

The PIC Committee convened as a group this past August in Chicago to plan our 2007 Spring Conference Breakout Sessions. Our challenge was twofold; identify the topics most relevant for all PIC members and in turn develop content compelling enough to prevent any PIC members from sneaking over to the other divisional sessions or choosing another activity.

The team was up to the challenge. As we embraced the concept of free will while huddled tightly in our conference room just off the main runway of Midway Airport our mission became clear. Develop timely, informative content targeted for the PIC Division members with clear direction on current business issues, industry challenges, and expected trends. As a public service we’ll inform our members of the other choices available to them during our breakout sessions.

Three Steps Toward Success

As we have discussed in the past, the world of retail is changing. Teters has been involved for the last couple of months in eight major projects involving over 17,000 locations with one retailer (some locations are involved with multiple projects).

Although these numbers relate to only one retailer, the same story exists with most of our customers. These projects normally co-exist within our current commitment to manage the existing modular business. On more than one occasion I have longed for the day when our programs for tomorrow would be similar to our programs of yesterday.

Holiday greetings to all NARMS and IFBA Division members! As the year 2006 winds down, the IFBA Division of NARMS is proud to report 14 new members to date with more on the way. We say that with some confidence as we watch some past association viability changes happen north of the border and our recent increase of four new Canadian food broker members could easily double itself again over coming months. We know that with diligent effort by members and staff, IFBA could conceivably double its membership base over the coming months/years.
