Welcome to the fulfilling career of retail merchandising

Merchandising is presenting products in their best light to generate more sales. Whether you are buying at a Target, Kohl’s, Dollar Store, home centers, supermarkets, or toy stores, chances are your buying decision has been influenced by the way the products were merchandised.

Your position as a Merchandiser will be both rewarding and challenging. In your role, you will be expected to help major manufacturing and retail companies present their product to the best advantage in the retail environment. The expertise and experience of good, qualified merchandisers provides the framework for customer satisfaction and the commitment to quality.

Merchandising is not a hobby but a professional career choice. As in other professions, those who continue to improve their abilities and develop more proficient skills to perform the necessary work will be rewarded with advancement opportunities and increased compensation.

Therefore, the NARMS Leadership has developed an On-Line Merchandiser Proficiency testing system. This tool will allow NARMS members to identify those merchandisers who are striving to “stand out” in a crowded merchandiser field.

HOW TO USE THIS MANUAL
The purpose of this training manual is to provide NARMS’ members with the most professional, well-trained and competent merchandiser work force available. There are seven (7) critical components to this manual including:
Customer Service
Work Place Safety
Standard of Conduct
Time Management
Problem-Solving
Merchandising 101
Merchandising Terminology
NARMS will be giving merchandisers the opportunity to take an On-Line Merchandiser Proficiency Test at the end of this training manual in which you will demonstrate the understanding and skills necessary to perform merchandising at the retail level.
Merchandisers can search for available jobs at the NARMS website under Search the JobBank. This section contains a database of positions available in the Professional Merchandising Service Industry. This database allows you to search the current jobs our members have available in a number of job categories and locations.

You can also Search the Career Connection at the NARMS website, which is a database of current career jobs that can be searched by categories and locations. These lists are maintained and updated in a timely fashion.
