Most people look forward to tax time with the same enthusiasm that they reserve for their dentist. Although not always painful, there is almost always some anxiety associated with settling up with Uncle Sam. The next edition of the NARMS Webinar Series offers some relief. In - Sales Tax: What, Where, When, Why & How - Diane Yetter will help you understand how sales and use tax impact your business in the retail marketing industry. The event, sponsored by NaturalInsight, is scheduled for Thursday, March 5 at 1:00 pm CST.

Whether you are in merchandising services, event marketing or a professional installation company, there are sales tax issues facing your business. It is important to understand where you need to be concerned about sales tax, whether your charges are taxable, and when you must collect tax or pay tax on your materials. During the one hour event, Yetter will provide practical tips about contract structuring and show you tools available to help you know the rules. The webinar is made possible through the technology of NARMS Associate Member, ReadyTalk.

Yetter is president of Yetter Consulting Services, Inc., a Chicago-based, sales tax consulting firm, and also founder of the Sales Tax Institute. Prior to her current position, Yetter was a state and local tax manager in the Chicago office of Andersen LLP. She also served as the sales and use tax director for the Quaker Oats Company and as a sales and use tax auditor for the Kansas Department of Revenue.

Since beginning her career in 1985, Yetter has provided various sales and use tax services to numerous clients of all sizes, from Fortune 500 to small, family-owned companies. These services include system analysis and recommendations of improvements, implementation assistance, training, audit defense, refund reviews, manuals, transactional planning and general consulting concerning the taxability of issues. She specializes in numerous industries including manufacturing, printing and publishing, computer software and electronic commerce, with secondary specialization in retail, service and construction.

The NARMS Webinar series is fast establishing a reputation of not only educating our members on important topics, but also providing unparalleled experts to lead the discussion. We are indeed fortunate to have just such an expert as Diane Yetter walks us through the sometimes uncomfortable area of sales tax. We are in an era that will challenge our code of ethics. Tough times bring about tough decisions. Tough decisions may lead to rationalization, allowing us to do things normally outside our code of ethics. Although these times may appear more challenging to our ethics, all economic conditions create drift. Our ethics during difficult times seem more important because everyone is watching. Everyone includes our investors, supervisors, peers, subordinates, and family. How well we remain within our definition of right combined with fiscal success is paramount. Read more
