As I complete my tenure as Chairman of NARMS, I must say it has been a unique privilege to have served during our 10th anniversary year. From extremely modest beginnings to our present condition of rapid growth, NARMS has consistently been working in the trenches for its members and the industry it serves.

Let me first introduce myself - I am Dan Borschke the new Executive Director of NARMS. New of course is only relative. I have been in office since January 10 and with everything that is happening around here I am starting to feel like a true veteran of this industry. Much of the credit of getting up to speed goes to Gary Ebben who is just in the next office until June 1. After that he certainly will be on speed-dial, even when he is on the golf course. This industry and hence this organization is so diverse and vibrant that it has taken some time to learn all the nuances and peccadilloes and please for the time being do not use acronyms - spell it out for me!

Hopefully by now you’ve all made the arrangements to attend our exciting 10th Anniversary Conference in beautiful, and warm, Tucson! This will be a special event in more ways than in the past, one, an exciting agenda; two, the record attendance; three, celebrating our 10th anniversary with friends and colleagues; and four, the retirement of Gary Ebben! Normally this space is used to discuss all the MSO committee projects and future endeavors. Somehow I can’t get excited to talk about us when Gary will be heading out the door for the last time as a NARMS colleague.

We have reached a critical time in our industry! To survive we must change the way we do business. We are challenged to provide high-performance event personnel while at the same time the market is forcing us to reduce costs to make our services affordable to CPG companies as they continue to analyze ROI. Manufacturers are shifting additional marketing dollars to in-store marketing programs and media but the industry is demanding performance.
Because security is a major issue in all sectors, it is just a matter of time before all retail marketing, demonstration & merchandising events will expect staffing companies to help provide a safer workplace by conducting background checks on all event & merchandising personnel.

Many NARMS members are able to search The Recruiter when they need field personnel. They have purchased the Expanded Listing in order to have unlimited access to our database of 57,000 people available for work.
We recently changed the way field personnel respond to the job notices they receive from our members. The notices are sent to the person’s home page in The Recruiter. The reply-back procedure had been email based, but with the changes we have implemented the system is entirely web-based. The reply form is placed at the bottom of each job notice and is sent to the reply email NARMS members used in their posting. As a result of the changes, field personnel can now use any computer to reply back to job notices without having to worry about the computer being configured properly.
